These little milk jugs are now commonly used in coffee shops to make a second shot of espresso. So why do baristas sometimes have to make two shots of espresso at the same time, even though they only ordered one?

The fact is that espresso prepared on a double holder is much tastier than espresso prepared on a single holder. That is, coffee for two servings is placed in the holder and two servings of espresso are prepared. And in those cases when one espresso is ordered, one espresso can be prepared in a cup for the customer, and the second – in this small milk jug. One espresso will be given to the customer by the barista, and the other – which is in the milk jug – can then (but as soon as possible) be used for the next order. Such espresso can be used to prepare drinks such as cappuccino, bumblebee, iced coffee, etc.
That is, a small milk jug is a very useful piece of coffee shop equipment.

Why is the utensil that is now used to make “extra” espresso called a milk jug, creamer, creamer, etc.? Because it was conceived and initially used as a utensil in which milk and cream are served with coffee. Now the most common way to serve coffee is a fully prepared drink in a glass. Previously, coffee was usually served in a cup, to which cream, milk, and water were served in small jugs. But this way of serving is now rare. Therefore, the milk jug moved from the coffee shop visitor’s table to the bar, where it became a barista’s assistant. Although in coffee shops and at home, when the classic coffee service is used, milk jugs are still used to serve milk, cream, and water.

We have come across messages on the Internet that such small milk jugs can be used at home as pitchers for whipping a small amount of milk for one serving. We do NOT recommend doing this, because the volume of 100 ml is very small and the milk simply splashes. Special vessels are used to whip milk – pitchers. They have a larger volume, a special shape and a sharp spout. We also have pitchers in our assortment. So please contact us, we will be happy to help you choose a pitcher for your home and coffee shop. Or at home, use this life hack: you can use ordinary deep cups to whip a small amount of milk. In order for the milk to whip well and not overheat, the cup and milk must be cooled.
