What is a pushtemper, why is it needed?

A tamper is an indispensable accessory for making coffee in a carafe espresso coffee machine. A classic tamper is a compact hand-held press that usually consists of a handle and a working base or sole. It is used to form a tablet of ground coffee in a basket.

To obtain delicious coffee and proper, even extraction, it is important to compact the coffee tablet properly. Water passes through compacted ground coffee more slowly, and a uniformly shaped tablet will ensure even extraction.

Tempering seems to be a fairly simple process, but in practice, to get a good coffee bookmark, you need to have skills and follow a few rules:

  • There should be no cavities in the coffee tablet.
  • The tablet should be flat.
  • The compaction must be uniform

Advantages of Push Tempera

When choosing the optimal temper, take a close look at push-tempers. Their design includes a limiter that fits on the edge of the cone. This will allow you to make a perfectly even coffee tablet without any effort.

What are the differences between push-temp and classic?

  • Instead of a handle, there is a flat button . This solution will seem more ergonomic to many. Everyone’s hand structure and finger length are different, and it was not easy to choose a tempera with the optimal handle height, even with the availability of different models with different heights.
  • The presence of a limiter. It is impossible to make a tablet with a skew with a push-temper, this limiter simply will not give you that.
  • Adjusting the depth of tempering . With a push-temper, all coffee tablets will be the same. Set the depth, and it doesn’t matter how hard you press on the temper.

When setting the depth of the push-temper, you need to focus on the protrusion of the diffuser with the dispersion mesh relative to the sealing ring of the brewing group. This distance is different for different coffee machines, so the push-temper must be adjusted specifically for your coffee machine. At the same time, the amount of coffee in the basket should be such that the formed coffee tablet rests against the dispersion mesh, but is not pushed through by it.

If there is more coffee and the tempering depth is adjusted incorrectly, the dispersion mesh will press down on the coffee and water will pass along the edges of the coffee tablet, where the density is lower, and if there is not enough coffee, you will get a liquid tablet.

Thanks to its technical structure , the push-temper allows you to consistently deliver the same level of tempering, without requiring special efforts from the barista .

The main advantage of Push Temper is the ease of forming a uniform and high-quality coffee tablet.
